14-Year-old shot during fight at Surprise park

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Surprise police are investigating after a 14-year-old was shot during a fight at a park Wednesday night.

Police received a call of a gunshot victim in the area of Grand Avenue and Greenway Boulevard. Officers responded to the scene and found a 14-year-old boy with a single gunshot wound to the leg.

Residents near Dysart and Greenway roads told police a large group of juveniles had been fighting and possible gunshots were heard about 8 p.m.

Surprise police Sgt. Norm Owens said no juveniles were located, but officers found multiple shell casings in a park area.

Officers determined the fight and shooting were related.

The victim was transported to a local hospital and is currently listed in stable condition. 

At this time, the investigation is ongoing and no one has been arrested in connection with this incident.
