Dad's Day Gift IdeasPosted: Updated:
Father's Day is coming up on June 17th, so I decided to do this segment now to give you a little time to put together some of these ideas if one of my suggestions suits your Father's fancy or your husband's tastes. So read on for some Dad's Day gift ideas that will celebrate Pop and all that he does for the family.
For the Family Man:
*Photo Art by Design by Sharon Brenner -- While meeting with my accountant back in April, my eye went straight to the attractive collage of family photos that hung beautifully in his office. I complemented him on his beautiful family. He told me that his wife, local mom Sharon Brenner assembles and creates the display called Photo Art by Design. So I went to my favorite professional photographer (who I will tell you about in the next paragraph) and had some pretty portraits made of me and my kiddos to surprise my own husband.
I emailed my pictures to Sharon and she put together an amazing block art collage for my husband's office. I can't wait to surprise him with it on Father's Day. I chose the 9-block called the Rubik's Cube for my husband's office. Sharon also offers The Quad, which has 4 photos and other creative combinations like The Name Grid, which displays two photos and a name, perfect for a new baby's portrait. She offers many other combos with prices starting at $139.99 and up. She can enhance the pictures with fun backgrounds and plates with special phrases with sentiments like "Families are Forever" or whatever expression suits the recipient. For more information and to order, contact Sharon Brenner at email@example.com or call 602-330-1625.
*John Hall Photography with Professional Makeup Artist Karen Hall -- Have portraits made that he will love of your family or of just you, too. Long-time Valley professional photographer John Hall is very good at what he does, having photographed models, celebrities, families as well as art, nature and food for magazine covers, CD covers and more through the years. He always captures moments that truly reflect my own kids' personalities. And a wonderful bonus is that his wife and our Channel 3 makeup artist, Karen Hall is also on hand to doll you up first. So make an afternoon of it and schedule a session with John and Karen. They work together in their uptown Phoenix studio. First Karen will apply your makeup and do your hair (and your children, too) and then John shoots away and gives you stunning portraits. Professional portraits of yourself or your family will make Dad smile every time. Visit www.johnhallphotography.com.
For the Professional Dad:
*The Parker Pen -- A classic gift that always makes an impression is a classy pen. Parker has a nice assortment that works for different budgets. The Parker Jotter Premium Classic Stainless Steel Chiseled pen sells for $22 and has been the classy standard in gift pens for more than 55 years. Go really fancy and get the Parker Ingenuity Daring Collection large model pen that features a sleek chrome PVD finish with chrome trims. This fancy pen series starts at $160. Parker pens are sold at pen shops and specialty retailers like Scottsdale Pen located at 7137 East Stetson Drive in Scottsdale or visit www.scottsdalepen.com.
For the Festive & Sports-Loving Father
*Lolita Gotta Love Beer Hand Painted Pilsner Glass -- Pick Dad's favorite sport and order a Lolita Gotta Love Beer pilsner glass from www.thelolitastore.com. I selected the hockey theme glass called the Slap Shot for my hubby. Glasses also come painted in soccer, golf and other sports themes. Pair the glass with a case of his favorite beer and you've got a gift that is sure to relax the Dad in your life! Sports themed pilsner sell for $25.95 with other themed pilsners going for $12 at www.thelolitastore.com.
For Golfer Dad
*GolfTEC golf lessons -- A lot of Dads live in Phoenix for the climate and for the numerous golf courses and I know several fathers who long to be better on the course. So get Dad a set of golf lessons at GolfTEC which are offered at local Golfsmith stores. A variety of customized packages can be purchased that will suit the level of lessons that you want to give Dad. For more information and to find a GolfTEC Improvement Center near you, visit www.golftec.com or call 1-877-4-GOLFTEC. I just checked the website and GolfTEC is offering a special Father's Day discount, so check the site for that offer.
For the Social Dad
*QTransportation Night Out on the Town -- Hire a professional driver and give Dad and Mom a night out on the town. We have hired a driver several times in the last couple of years and I am always amazed at just how relaxed the group is when we let a professional do the driving. Keith Beccue with Q Transportation is our top choice for a night out. Keith and his fellow drivers are always prompt, extremely nice to work with and come in a nice full-sized SUV or Lincoln Towncar stocked with Dad's favorite beer, wine and snacks. This is a gift that creates a special memory. For rates and dates call Keith with Q Transportation at 480-845-2708 or Kbeccue@Q.com.
For the Well Groomed Dad
*Gillette Fusion ProGlide 3-in-1 Styler ($19.99 at Walgreens) -- My managedmoms.com beauty writer and Walgreens beauty expert, Bianca tells me that her male customers love the Gillette Fusion ProGlide Styler because it comes with a trimmer, 3 combs, shave gel, a battery and one cartridge so it is a great gift pack.
Cute Gift Ideas From the Kids
*As You Wish Painted Pottery Pieces -- Through the years, I have taken my kids to As You Wish to create customized pieces for my husband. It has been fun to see their creations, which have changed and matured with their ages. To see some of my daughter's fun designs that she made my husband through the years, watch the segment. She has done a coffee mug of his college Alma Mater, a sweet vase and a funny cat piggy bank that says, "Dear Dad, I hope you have a great summer!" It is so fun to see what she creates and her Daddy always loves to receive one of her hand-painted gifts. For more information and for Valley As You Wish locations, visit www.asyouwishpottery.com.
*FedEx Office Personalized Note Pads -- Create a simple notepad, like my daughter did for my hubby several years ago that has our names and little drawings of each of us, or go more elaborate with hand-drawn art. Take your design to a local FedEx Print & Ship Center and they will create a customized pad for you. Prices vary depending on paper size, amount of papers in pad and other details. We did ours for under $10. More details at www.fedex.com.
*Hallmark’s Dad & Me (Also Grandpa & Me) Conversations To Keep Recordable Book ($24.95 at Walgreens) -- is the perfect present for the Dad who has to be away in the military. And this thoughtful gift also works for the sentimental Dad, too. We bought our copy at Walgreens and my daughter and I had fun recording her sweet voice in the book that asks her all about her Dad. Plus, it is pretty special to have a book that will preserve her childhood voice forever.
*Shutterfly Memory Books -- Scrapbooking has become a piece of cake with online photo sites like Shutterfly. I have created small paperback memory books for my husband and large 12 x 12 hard cover scrapbooks for my kids' Grandpa. They were all done through Shutterfly and were truly easy to assemble. See the segment to see my samples. The other great benefit to doing this online is that you get a password and an account, so that your pictures are safely stored in case your computer crashes. Just log on, upload your pics and create all kinds of gifts that include memory books, coffee mugs, aprons and more. Memory books come in five sizes and pricing starts at $12.99. Visit www.shutterfly.com for details. And get free shipping on orders of $30 or more.
