LAKE PLEASANT, Ariz. -- Authorities are investigating a drowning at Lake Pleasant this holiday weekend.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said a 30-year-old Hispanic man was pulled from the Fireman's Cove area of the lake Sunday afternoon.

His identity has not been released.

Witnesses tell 3TV the man was fishing, and waded into the water

."He was there one minute, and the next, he was gone," said Cheri Briswalter, whose family was camping on the shore.

"He had a pole and worms with him, walked into the water to swim to the island to fish," she said.

She and other witnesses said once the victim got to deeper water, he went under, but never re-surfaced.

"I thought he dropped his pole and dove to get it. It was horrible, just horrible," Briswalter said.

The man's body was pulled out of the water and brought to shore.

CPR was unsuccessful.

Around the same time, rescue crews were called to another part of Lake Pleasant.

A man hit his head on a boat, while trying to dive into the water.

He was flown to the hospital, and is expected to fully recover.
