PHOENIX -- HGTV’s hit reality competition “HGTV Design Star” will have a little local flavor when it kicks off its new season next week.

Valley resident Britany Simon will be among the 12 finalists competing for their own HGTV show.

Simon owns her own interior design business in Phoenix, and said she’s always watched HGTV and wanted to give the show a try.

Accompanied by her husband, Simon made a trip up to Las Vegas for a casting call, which eventually led to her being invited to participate on “HGTV Design Star.”

Simon had to move to Los Angeles for a month and a half to shoot the show, but was only able to tell her family about the opportunity.

While she won’t reveal too many details about the upcoming season, Simon said it was an awesome experience.

“It’s still kind of weird to see myself pop up on the commercials, and it’s still going to be really weird for me to watch myself on the network, but I’m really, really excited,” Simon said.
