Phoenix weather: Windy and cooler holiday weekendPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- A cool and windy change is on tap for Arizona this Memorial Day weekend. A strong cold front is forecast to move through the state.
Although there's a slight chance of rain and thunderstorms in the high country late Saturday, it's more likely cool and windy weather will be the biggest effects of this storm.
Look for Valley highs in the low 90s Friday and low 80s on Saturday. Saturday's forecast high of 83 degrees is a full 15 degrees below average for this time of year. It's likely to be very windy, with a wind advisory and red flag warning today and tomorrow.
There is also a high pollution advisory for the Valley for the potential for blowing dust later today and this evening.
Expect winds between 20 and 30 mph with gusts of up to 45 mph.
In the high country, winds should be even stronger, with a high wind warning in effect until 8 p.m. Saturday. Winds out of the south and southwest could gust up to 60 mph.
The winds should die down Sunday and Monday and the temperatures will warm back up.
Sunday, look for sunshine and highs in the upper 80s, with temperatures peaking in the upper 90s on Monday.
