MESA, Ariz. (AP) -- A man has suffered life-threatening injuries after the van he was driving struck a school bus stopped on a Mesa street.
Mesa police spokesman Steven Berry said the 50-year-old man was driving a van Wednesday morning and failed to brake behind the bus on Broadway Road at Signal Butte Road.
Berry said the driver is listed in critical condition at a local hospital.
A 17-year-old girl was also taken to the hospital as a precaution after hitting her head on the bus.
Berry said only two children were on the bus, which was picking up students at the time of the crash.
Police are investigating the cause but believe impairment from drugs or alcohol was a factor.
