Phoenix weather: Strong winds expectedPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Mother nature is bringing some unwelcome wind to Arizona over the next couple of days.
A low pressure system moving by to our north will drag a dry cold front through the state Friday, but winds will pick up ahead of the front Thursday afternoon.
On the fire lines, southwesterly winds between 10 and 20 miles per hour are likely today with gusts of 30 mph or higher. A red flag warning is in effect for the high country both Thursday and Friday. Even stronger winds are forecast for Friday, with gusts possible up to 45 miles an hour.
Winds should continue to be out of the southwest, which will keep most of the wildfire smoke out of the Valley.
The Valley will see breezy conditions Friday and a bit of cooler weather. Look for more triple-digit heat Thursday, with Valley highs around 104 degrees.
Friday and Saturday, afternoon temperatures will only top out in the mid-90s, with the winds finally dropping off over the weekend.
