Valley man wants Graco to honor 12-month warrantyPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Luciano Alonzo pretty much knows how to do anything around the house.
"I'm a jack-of-all-trades, master of none," Alonzo joked.
And one of those so-called trades, he said, calls for painting, which is why he purchased a Graco paint sprayer last year.
He paid a couple hundred dollars for the sprayer, which is something he says he hasn't really used all that often.
"I'd say I used that one sprayer, at the most eight times," Alonzo said. "I don't even think that much, eight at the most."
When the sprayer broke recently, Alonzo wasn't worried. After all, it had a 12-month warranty.
But when he took the sprayer in to get repaired, he had to fork out $102. That's because Graco refused to honor that warranty and made Alonzo foot the bill, saying the sprayer broke from wear and tear.
"I think if you're going to put a 12-month warranty on a product, and you spend $300, you ought to honor it," Alonzo said.
So, 3 On Your Side looked into the matter and contacted Graco. After all, there must have been a mistake.
A Graco spokesperson wrote me an email saying the replaced part "was not defective and therefore not eligible for coverage under Graco's standard warranty."
The spokesperson went onto say that the product is meant to be used about once per quarter, which is only four times a year. But, remember, Alonzo said he used it nearly eight times.
However, after 3 On Your Side's involvement, Graco sent Alonzo a voucher for $102, which is the amount he's out of pocket. Graco said he can apply the credit toward the purchase of another Graco sprayer.
Alonzo said that's fine with him and thanks 3 On Your Side for helping him out in the matter.
