Phoenix weather: Hot and dry week aheadPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- A strong ridge of high pressure is building over the Southwest, bringing hot and dry weather for the new week ahead.
Mother's Day Sunday saw the mercury rise to 103 degrees, and it looks like it will continue to climb a bit over the next few days. Look for a high near 104 today and 105 for Tuesday, with an excessive heat watch issued for the Valley Tuesday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m.
Wednesday looks to be nearly as warm before temperatures moderate just a bit for the weekend.
Windy and dry weather will continue to plague firefighters battling several blazes burning across Arizona.
Breezy conditions are expected today, with easterly winds between 10 and 20 mph with higher gusts.
A fire weather watch will be in effect Tuesday for parts of Northern Arizona because of low relative humidities and even stronger winds. Look for winds out of the south in the watch area between 15 and 20 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph.
Warm and very dry weather is forecast all the way through the end of the week.
