Desert Botanical Garden, located at 1201 N. Galvin Parkway in Phoenix, will celebrate National Public Gardens Day by offering free admission from 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. to visitors with the free admission pass. The pass can be downloaded at the Better Homes and Garden Website: www.bhg.com/npgd  or www.dbg.org. Admission to the Spring Butterfly Exhibit is also free to visitors with the admission pass. Chef Bryan Dooley and his co-author Leslie V. Bay will be signing copies of the cookbook "Stories and recipes from Bryan's Black Mountain Barbecue"  at the Barnes and Noble at Kierland  The signing is May 12th from 1pm-3pm.  The cookbook is available in stores now.
Creeker ribs with prickly pear lime bbq sauce:
RIBS:
(serves 2-4)
2 slabs of St. Louis spare ribs
6 tbsp Bryan's Spice Rub
Trim ribs of excess fat and remove any membrane. Season both sides with Bryan's spice Rub.  Heat smoker to 225 degrees.  When hot, add ribs and smoke for 5-6 hours or until ribs are tender.

PRICKLY PEAR LIME BBQ SAUCE:
(makes 15 cups)
5 cups tomado sauce
5 cups ketchup
4&1/2 cups prickly pear syrup
1/2 cup raspberry vinegar
1/2 cut lime juice
1/2 tbsp crushed coriander seed
1/4 tbsp coarse black pepper
1/2 tsp granulated garlic
1 & 1/2 tbsp Kosher salt
1 tbsp chili powder
Add all ingredients to a large pot and simmer until thickened. Cool and pour into jars of plastic containers.  Seal and store in the refrigerator.

 


THE PHOENIX COMEDY FESTIVAL  is Sunday May 13 at Phoenix Symphony Hall.  Doors open at 6 PM.  Showtime  is 7 PM
Comedians appearing at the show include Lewis Black, Bill Engvall, Bobcat Goldthwait, Dick Gregory, Kathleen Madigan, Father Guido Sarducci, Tommy Smothers, Steven Wright, along with Little Feat musicians Paul Barrere & Fred Tackett.  Ticket prices vary.  The show benefits America's first monument honoring the Bill of Rights.
