SAN TAN VALLEY, Ariz.--An East Valley couple is thankful to be alive after powerful winds toppled their mobile home while they were inside of it.

Dave and Jeanine Acre said they noticed some dust and winds moving it, but did not expect anything as powerful as the gusts that blew off their roof and the side of their home.

"Wife went down, I went on top of her to cover her, and the whole place just went over," Dave said, describing how he protected his wife.

"We started to see the roof come off, then it came off some more, and then we found a pair of haircut scissors right in the TV," Jeanine said.

The couple was able to walk out with their dog with just minor cuts and bruises.

Theirs was one of 20 homes damaged all within a small pocket of homes in San Tan Valley near Ironwood and Germann roads, said Colin Williams of the Rural Metro Fire Department. No one in the area was seriously injured.

"I'm from Iowa and I've never seen anything like this," said John Lindstrom, who lives in the Pheasant Run mobile home community.

A couple of blocks away, Kimberly Strong came home to find her entire garage torn apart by the winds.

"I got home and my mouth just dropped open," Strong said. "The back of the roof is all ripped up like a sardine can. It's mind-boggling."
