SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Police believe an arsonist is responsible for an early morning fire at a Scottsdale apartment complex.

A four-unit building at El Dorado Resort Apartments near 68th Street and Indian School Road and a nearby pickup truck were damaged in the fire, according to Officer David Pubins with the Scottsdale Police Department.

The fire started in some discarded furniture along the outside of the building at approximately 2:45 a.m. Monday. The units were being remodeled and were not occupied.

Nine residents were evacuated from nearby units during the incident, but no injuries were reported.

Officers saw a man running from the area and detained him. He was later arrested on an unrelated warrant. At this time, police do not believe he is a suspect in the fire.

Police said multiple Dumpster fires occurred in the same area earlier in the year.

The investigation is ongoing.
