PHOENIX -- Police are looking for two men in what they are calling an "evil attack" that ended with one man dead.

Francisco Juarez, 20, was shot to death by a complete stranger, according to police, early Sunday morning.

Juarez and a 19-year-old friend were at a Circle K store near 11th Avenue and Hatcher, when they were approached by two men trying to buy alcohol.

"There were two black males there at the window and they were attempting to purchase alcohol, because they appeared intoxicated the clerk determined that she was not going to sell them alcohol," said Officer James Holmes, with the Phoenix Police Department.

The men asked Juarez and his friend to purchase the booze instead. The victims said they couldn't because they were underage.

"They had a conversation there in front of the store, they were smiling, there was laughing between both parties there was some handshakes. And Francisco and his friend got into their Toyota vehicle and they left," said Det. Holmes.

Juarez headed east on Hatcher, and not a minute later the men they had just met were next to them.

"A white older model Lincoln Town Car pulled up along-side of them and who we believed to be the passenger of that vehicle began firing rounds into Francisco's car," said Holmes. "Francisco was driving, he was struck multiple times, his 19-year-old friend was struck by this gunfire."

The sedan then crashed through the garage at Intech Automotive at Central and Hatcher.

Francisco Juarez died at the hospital while the 19-year-old victim was grazed by a bullet and will survive his wounds.

Still, police say the survivor is struggling, emotionally.

"The 19 year old was absolutely traumatized this morning when he spoke with our officers and our detectives because he, too, cannot figure out what he did wrong," said Holmes. "The only reason for this homicide is evil... this was an utter act of evil."
