2 Arrested in Phoenix pawn shop robberyPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Police arrested two men accused of robbing a Phoenix pawn shop at gunpoint Friday afternoon.
Phoenix police Sgt. Tommy Thompson said Robert Ortiz, 47, and Steven Jacovo, 35, stole money and jewelry from a pawn shop near 24th Street and Thomas Road then fled in a vehicle.
Officers located the vehicle in the area of Seventh Avenue and McNeil Street, which is south of Dobbins Road.
Thompson said officers followed the suspects to a park in that area where the pair abandoned their vehicle and fled on foot.
Ortiz was quickly taken into custody, but Jacovo made it into a nearby trailer park. He was later located inside a trailer.
During the search for Jacovo, a pickup truck left the area. Officers stopped the truck and found it was occupied by Jacovo's girlfriend and her mother. Thompson said the officers found evidence of the crime inside the vehicle, which they determined had been placed there by Jacovo.
It was later determined that the women had no part in the crime.
Both Ortiz and Jacovo were booked into the Maricopa County Jail. Ortiz is facing charges of armed robbery, resisting arrest, theft, misconduct with weapons (prohibited possessor) and kidnapping. Jacovo faces armed robbery and kidnapping charges.
It is believed there are no other suspects in this crime.
