SUN CITY, Ariz. -- Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a growing treatment option at Banner Boswell Medical Center in Sun City. The treatment is used to address several health conditions, which prompted Banner Boswell to add a third hyperbaric oxygen chamber.

Ron McCabe suffered from severe bladder spasms, but found comfort when he began receiving treatment in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber.

“Well, all I can say is I have not had a bladder spasm in over a year,” McCabe said.

While inside a hyperbaric oxygen chamber a patient breathes 100 percent oxygen. The pressure inside the chamber helps the oxygen dissolve into the patient’s blood, allowing it to be quickly sent to the entire body.

Dr. Shishir Shah says the benefits of hyperbaric oxygen therapy are numerous.

“It actually has a life saving ability, a limb saving ability, beyond just using it recreationally,” Dr. Shah explained.

McCabe said spending time in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber has certainly made his life more enjoyable.

“Now I’m back to lawn bowling, I’m back to wood shop, and before I couldn’t do any of those,” McCabe proclaimed.

Banner Boswell Medical Center will be celebrating the addition of their new hyperbaric oxygen chamber later this month.  A community open house will take place from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 16.
