Officer on top of doughnut shop to raise money for Special OlympicsPosted: Updated:
MESA, Ariz. -- Arizona Department of Corrections Officer John Risch is raising money for Special Olympics. However, he's doing it in a unique way. As of Friday, Risch is camping out on top of the Krispy Kreme in Mesa. Not only was he on the roof of the building, he was decked out in pink from his hair to a frilly tutu.
"They are the best in the world," Risch said. "As far as I'm concerned, the athletes rock! Special Olympics Arizona rocks."
What started as a joke four years ago has turned into a passion. Of course, what better way for a cop to raise money than at a doughnut shop?
"Last year I raised about $2,500," Risch said. "I hope to raise $2,500 to $5,000."
Risch will be camping out at the Krispy Kreme on Power Road near the U.S. 60 until 7 p.m. Sunday. By the time he comes down, he will have been up there for 60 hours straight.
He hopes those who stop by donate some money for a fantastic cause.
