PHOENIX -- Two men were injured when their helicopter crashed in a neighborhood near 19th Street and Roma Avenue, which is south of Camelback Road, in Phoenix late Wednesday morning.

The small helicopter crashed between two houses, hitting both roofs, shortly before noon.

Two city Water Services employees and a resident in the area heard the helicopter sputtering. They watched the aircraft go down and rushed to help get the pilot and passenger out.

"The engine was running and it was roaring and it was just so scary," said one of the Phoenix city water workers who witnessed the crash and went to help.

Phoenix Fire Department spokesman Scott McDonald said the passenger and pilot were transported to a nearby trauma center. Their injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

Sources tell 3TV the pilot's name is Sascha Janssen and the passenger's name is Mike Brown.

No one was home at either residence when the crash occurred.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash.

The two-seat helicopter is a Hughes 269C and is registered to Canyon State Aero, a flight training school out of Falcon Field.
