PHOENIX -- It was a big showing of community support on Friday for the family of a slain 29-year-old husband and father of four.

"He was a good father and a good person," Christina Alcantar said of her husband, Carl Scott, as a couple of dozen friends and family members washed down a stream of cars lined up in the parking lot of a west Phoenix convenience store.

The car wash, the first of several, was held to raise money to pay for Scott's funeral. Scott was gunned down last Sunday morning in front of his and Christina's two-year-old son, C.J.

Scott had just dropped his brother off at the brother's west Phoenix home when a group of men allegedly started throwing rocks at the car that Scott and his young son were in.

Scott stopped the car, got out, a fight erupted, and according to police, a 31-year-old man named J'Jmar Washington hoisted a shotgun and shot Carl in the chest while little C.J. was still strapped in his car seat.

"The guy who did this, there is a lot of words for him that I'd rather not say on the air," Alcantar said.

"I'm a single mom now dealing with kids by myself."

The alleged shooter, Washington, is now behind bars facing a charge of second-degree murder.

The family and friends of Scott are planning car washes on Saturday and Sunday.
