Top 10 Mommy Must-Haves from Bb EcoPosh

Posted: Updated:

One of our Mom Squad mothers recommended that I put together a must-have new baby item segment for Doc Ally, one of the regular guests who appears on "Your Life A to Z" and I thought that this was a fine idea!  Doc Ally is expecting her very first child, so she is open to lots of tips!  If you are also awaiting the arrival of a new baby or know someone who is, check out this top 10 list on new Mommy must-haves.  This helpful list was compiled by an expert I know.

Stephanie Lee is the proud owner of a green luxury eboutique called Bébé EcoPosh, which can be found at  She is also a proud Mama to little daughter Sophia (a.k.a. Little Miss Bébé EcoPosh).  Stephanie Lee was inspired to open a store dedicated to offering stylish eco-friendly juvenile products.  So she launched the website as a one-stop green shopping option for parents.

So read on to see what our expert, Mama Stephanie Lee suggests for Doc Ally and for all of the new Mamas out there!

*gDiapers ($17 for each GPant at -- This is a product that I wish would have been around when my kids were babies!  Stephanie says that this is the most stylish hybrid cloth diaper for Mothers that fear cloth diapers, but care for our planet.  And this brilliant invention is available in a number of colors and seasonal limited edition patterns.  The GPant cover is worn over and over again, while the inserts (the diaper part) are compostable and biodegradable.  These diapers can be thrown in the trash and they will biodegrade within 90 days compared to plastic diapers, which take over 500 years! Wow!  And the best part is that they can be flushed, so no more smelly diapers in the nursery or the need for ugly diaper pails!

*A good diaper bag -- Stephanie recommends the JJ Cole Boutique Collection Myla Bag ($119 on  This bag is roomy because it has two spacious side pockets and a big back pocket.  Plus the front pocket is perfect for hauling diapers and wipes and the strap is adjustable and padded, taking Mom's shoulder comfort into consideration.  A padded changing pad with a Velcro closure is also included and the bag is PVC and Teflon-free.

*GoCrib by Guava Family ($249 on -- This cool contraption is a standard-size portable crib that comes in a backpack with a pump.  The rigid inflatable airframe technology creates a lightweight, yet strong and safe environment, that packs right into an easy-to-carry backpack.  This is another item that I wish this would have been around when my kids were babies!

The GoCrib’s rounded structure is soft and safe. It has curved sidewalls that eliminate hard edges and corners to prevent unintended bonks and bumps.  Plus this portable crib has no hinges, large metal parts or pinch-points. It is made of high-quality phthalate Free, lead Free, and AZO Dye-free non-toxic materials. Also, the breathable ClearView Mesh sides allow for full airflow and an unobstructed view of your child, even when the side is zipped up.  Brilliant invention!

*Lille by Bébé au Lait | Quib ($14 on -- This clever item is four bibs in one.  Quib is the world’s first quadruple bib! It’s totally reversible with the possibility of four clean sides. Perfectly oversized, this innovative bib features Lille’s signature prints on one side and plush terrycloth on the other. Two double-sided magnets seamlessly and securely fasten the bib across baby’s chest with zero hassle. The absence of cumbersome closures saves time and protects baby's skin and clothes.

*Dapple Clean-Up Kit  ($20 on -- This gentle cleaning kit includes:  dish liquid, Dapple cleaning cloth, toy cleaner wipes (full & travel size) and surface cleaner.  Stephanie says that the superior Dapple Dish Liquid features award-winning green technology to target milk residue along with baking soda to combat odor.  Plus, this baby safe cleaner will ease your mind, while it cleans and thanks to the essential French lavender oil, Mom gets a little aromatherapy treatment while doing the dishes!

Dapple Dish Liquid is made with purified water, baking soda, cleaners derived from fruits, tree oils and glucose, French lavender essential oil and essential oil dispersant.  I love knowing the ingredients to products, especially items that I use around my children.

*Little Twig Calming Lavender Skin Care ($11 each on -- Little twig products are developed with the advice of pediatricians and real-life parents. Made with organic and botanical ingredients, these skin care products are gentle and nice for baby.

*Finn + Emma Organic Infant Toys ($28 each at -- Don’t worry about chemicals with these toys, because they are free of toxins, are organic and contribute to the well-being of society.  Finn + Emma uses only the finest 100% organic cotton and eco-friendly dyes.  And on top of that, their garments and accessories are produced in fair trade settings that focus on social and economic independence for local people, women especially, working to provide for their families in a safe and fair environment.

*A Word About Breastfeeding -- I am a pretty big breast-feeding advocate, having nursed both of my children for one full year.  And even if you give it a try and can only go for a few weeks or months, know that you gave your baby the magical colostrum, which is the breast milk that comes in the first few days the baby is born, before the thicker mother's milk comes in a few days later.

Colostrum contains antibodies to protect the newborn against disease, as well as being lower in fat and higher in protein than ordinary milk.  The first few weeks are very difficult (although I found with my second child, nursing was a snap), but with my first, my Mom got me through it.

I highly recommend that new moms also take a breast-feeding prep class while pregnant and welcome the nursing lactation consultant that many hospitals include in the hospital stay experience.  Once you master nursing, you will find that endorphins are actually released to relax mom that almost feel like having a nice glass of wine.  Plus you will lose the weight quicker, as the uterus contracts while nursing!  Of course, you will also save a bundle of money by not having to purchase formula!  Once you get over the painful first few weeks, the bond with baby is phenomenal!

So if you are able to nurse (and don't feel guilty if it doesn't work out, but try if you can), then you will find that having a breast pump is crucial and gives you freedom to bottle your liquid gold before you head out the door.  So I asked Stephanie which breast pump she recommends and her top pick is....

*Hygeia Breast Pump ($299 at -- Stephanie says that this is the only eco-friendly breast pump on the market.  She says that unlike other breast pumps, you can officially pass this pump on to family and friends!  When you no longer need the breast pump, it can be re-used by a friend or family member when each mother purchases her own personal accessory set.  This means fewer pumps in the landfills and better future for baby!

And here is a cool and unique assist with letdown, you can even record your own babies cry or play the pre-recorded cry included with the pump, by simply pressing the green button on the breast pump.  Clever!

* Aden + Anais 3-pack Pyara Bamboo Swaddle ($40 at -- Breathable and eco-friendly, this pack of three muslin swaddling blankets are made using rayon from bamboo fiber.  The lightweight muslin permits air to circulate around the baby's body, while still providing comfort and warmth, without the worry that the baby may overheat in moderate weather.  It is gentle on baby’s skin and durable for everyday use. The more you wash the wraps, the softer they get and they are extra-large, measuring 47” x 47”, so that new and seasoned parents alike, can swaddle babies of all sizes with ease. Traditionally used for swaddling, the wraps can also be used as burp cloths, nursing and stroller covers, portable crib sheets, stroller and car seat liners, tummy time blankets, change table covers, and more.  I love how versatile this swaddle set is for mom and baby!

*miYim Organic Cotton Infant Plush Gift Set ($50 at -- Great gift set for baby, this set comes with a soft cotton lamb burp cloth, a small plush bunny, and a duck teether/rattle. The super soft items are made out of certified organic and natural cotton and housed in a handmade box crafted from recycled materials.

So happy shopping if you are buying a new baby gift.  And for all of you new moms out there, Stephanie and I wish you so much joy, as much sleep as you can sneak in, and good health for you and your new baby.
