PHOENIX -- Two people were killed in a collision on U.S. 93 near Wickenburg Thursday morning.

Department of Public Safety Officer Carrick Cook said the driver of an SUV crossed over the center line for an unknown reason before hitting a tractor-trailer head-on around 11 a.m.

A nine-mile stretch of the highway north of Wickenburg was closed in both directions for most of the day while authorities investigated the fatal crash. It reopened at around 7:30 p.m.

The SUV's driver, identified as Sergio Enrique Horcos, 54, of Wickenburg, was killed in the crash. The driver of the semitruck was killed after the cab of the truck caught fire. DPS has identified him as Mark Anthony Santorii, 44, from Las Vegas.

Cook said investigators don't believe Horcos was impaired but are still trying to figure out why he crossed the center line.

U.S. 93 was closed between state routes 71 and 89. Those two highways were used as a detour route while U.S. 93 was closed.

U.S. 93 is the main route between Phoenix and Las Vegas.
