What you need to know about power bars

Posted: Updated:

PHOENIX -- Power bars are handy when you're in a crunch and need to get some food into your stomach, but how do you know which one is right for you?

There are so many choices these days, some better than others.

Registered dietitian Tiffani Bachus explains what you need to know, answering four of the most common questions people ask her.

1. Are power bars good for you?

2. What should I look for in ingredients?

3. What about source of ingredients?

4. What bars do experts like you recommend?

While power bars do have their place in  your diet, Bachus says you shouldn't rely on them. They are, however, a good solution when you don't have time to eat a proper meal.

Bachus also recommends you watch your protein intake -- many power bars are loaded with it -- as too much can be bad for you, especially if you don't drink enough water.
