PHOENIX (AP) -- A Phoenix police officer responding to a stalking call fatally shot a man who moments before had shot the man who made the stalking complaint.

Police say 32-year-old Dan. A. Ruble and 39-year-old Steven Brandt were pronounced dead at the scene early Tuesday.

They say Ruble apparently was dating Brandt's soon-to-be ex-wife.

An officer went to the north Phoenix home of Ruble, who had complained that he was being stalked.

They say Brandt was in SUV parked in the home's driveway and answered questions posed by the officer. Brandt then got out of the vehicle and opened fire on Ruble.

Police say the officer then fatally shot Brandt.

The officer wasn't injured and her identity wasn't being released. Police say she's 55 years old and is a 17-year department veteran.
