Phoenix weather: Cool-down comingPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- After a record-breaking weekend, Mother Nature will provide some cool relief in the new week ahead.
Saturday tied a record at Sky Harbor with a high of 103, and Sunday shattered the 99-degree record set in 1949 with a new record high of 105 degrees. A handful of other Arizona towns broke records Sunday, including Flagstaff, Prescott, Payson and Page.
The heat should ease up a bit today with the Valley forecast to top out near 101 degrees under mostly sunny skies.
As the high-pressure ridge sitting over the Southwest weakens even more, we'll drop to the 90s for both Tuesday and Wednesday.
Wednesday night and into Thursday, a strong cold front moves toward Arizona, dropping temperatures dramatically and bringing a chance of rain.
At this point, it looks like a 50-percent chance of rain for Thursday with a high of only 80 degrees.
Temperatures are forecast to come back up to the low 90s with sunshine for next weekend.
