MESA, Ariz. -- A Mesa motorcycle officer is in the hospital after and early morning wreck in a major intersection.
It happened shortly before 3:30 a.m. Friday at Power and Germann roads, which is on the east edge of Power Ranch.
According to police, the officer was on Power Road when a vehicle heading the opposite direction turned in front of him.
The impact threw the officer off his motorcycle. He reportedly suffered a broken leg, but he is expected to recover.
Video from the scene shows the crunched front end of a red car and the officer's motorcycle on its side in the middle of the intersection.
Officers said impairment does not appear to be a factor in the crash, but the investigation is ongoing.
Police have not released any information about either the officer or the driver of the car.
The intersection was closed for several hours, finally reopening to traffic shortly before 8:30 a.m.
