MOBILE, Ariz. -- Maricopa County sheriff's deputies seized about a ton of marijuana after finding a pickup truck hidden under a tree in Mobile.

Deputies saw a set of fresh tire tracks in a well-known smuggling area near Highway 238 late Monday night, according to MCSO spokesman Jeff Sprong.

They tracked the GMC pickup truck for approximately 10 miles and located a truck loaded with 80 bundles of marijuana underneath a palo verde tree.

Sprong said the suspects fled on foot after deputies believe they were tipped off by drug spotters.

The marijuana weighed 2,094.5 pounds and had a street value of more than $1 million.

Mobile is about 32 miles from downtown Phoenix.
