PHOENIX (AP) -- Backers of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio will stage a march Saturday, April 28, in Fountain Hills to show their appreciation for the sheriff and help support him at a time when he faces some of his toughest criticism.
Organizer Andi Bell says it's about time that someone hold a march a rally for the sheriff, given that anti-Arpaio protesters often demonstrate at the sheriff's events.
Arpaio has faced criticism for his office's inadequate investigations of hundreds of sex-crimes cases and for allegations by Justice Department that the sheriff's office has committed a wide range of civil rights violations.
Many Arpaio critics have recently called for the sheriff's resignation.
The sheriff has vehemently rejected resignation calls and is seeking a sixth term this year.
