Shake your asana at 'yoga rave'Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- "Yoga" and "rave" might not sound like they go together, but that's exactly what's happening Friday night when more than 500 people are expect to gather to shake their asanas.
As Tristan Gandolfi explained to Yetta Gibson, the event is taking place in a warehouse with dark ambient lighting and fog.
Shake Your Asana is hosted by lululemon athletica, specifically the Biltmore store, and is free to the public. Just make sure to BYOM (bring your own mat).
Three of the Valley's most talked-about yoga instructors -- Max Cohen, Jaqlyn Collier and Will Glass -- will guide the yoga ravers through their flows while DJ Q keeps the beat.
"It's a crazy idea and crazy people are supporting it," Gandolfi said, saying the event will have a rave vibe with the "happiness of yoga."
"This is a legit two-hour flow class," she said.
Gandolfi said you don't have to be a yogi to take part. Those who are less experienced and will do just fine.
"It's an all-levels class," she explained. "We have yoga demos so you can see people, and also it'll be dark, so nobody can really see you. If you make a mistake, you're totally safe."
The Yoga Rave is Friday starting at 6:30 p.m. at 605 E. Grant Street, Phoenix. Doors open at 6 p.m. Parking will be available just east of the building.
