Arizona swimmers headed to Alcatraz, Golden Gate Bridge

PHOENIX -- A group of Valley swimmers got in one last training swim at Bartlett Lake Tuesday morning before tackling the annual Alcatraz and Golden Gate Bridge swims.

Bruce Haffner checked in on the swimmers, one of whom is just 10 years old,  from the Fort McDowell Casino News Chopper and chatted live with coach and Swim F.A.S.T. founder Joe Zemaitis.

"Each year in the San Francisco Bay children as young as age 8 take on a challenge most adults will not and prove that their perceived limits are just that," according to the FAST Foundation's website.

This weekend, Swim F.A.S.T.'s Team Alcatraz will join more than 120 other swimmers for Escape From the Rock, a 1.4-mile swim from Alcatraz Island to San Franciscos's Aquatic Park inlet, and Crossing the Great Gate, a 1.2-mile swim along the length of the Golden Gate Bridge.
