PHOENIX (AP) -- A motorcycle officer with Arizona Department of Public Safety fired multiple shots at a man who crashed his car into him and a police car before fleeing.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Tim Case said the agency got a report about a man driving recklessly on Interstate 10 and began pursuing him.

Case says the man got boxed in by a truck and a DPS patrol car.

That's when a motorcycle officer pulled up behind the driver, who backed up into him and knocked him and his bike over. He then continued backing up while dragging the motorcycle and then pulled forward, crashing into the DPS car.

The motorcycle officer fired three to five shots at the driver as he fled, and the car eventually crashed at an off-ramp.

The driver was uninjured and taken into custody.

The motorcycle officer had minor knee injuries.
