MESA, Ariz. (AP) -- Paul Goldschmidt hit a grand slam and Henry Blanco also connected as the Arizona Diamondbacks broke out of a long slump with a 12-2 win over a Chicago Cubs split squad Thursday.
The Diamondbacks came into the game hitting a Cactus League-low of .227, but cranked out 16 hits as Justin Upton and Aaron Hill had two hits apiece to help lead the club.
Arizona right-hander Ian Kennedy worked four scoreless innings, allowing five hits with three strikeouts and a walk.
Marlon Byrd had two hits for Chicago, but Ryan Dempster gave up three runs in 3 2-3 innings.
He yielded eight hits, struck out three and walked one.
