Phoenix weather: Windy storm comingPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- After an unseasonably warm weekend, brace yourselves for a windy and cold change.
Saturday's temperatures topped out in the low 70s, and the mercury rose to the low 80s on Sunday.
Monday's Valley highs will peak near 83 degrees under partly sunny skies and Tuesday will be nearly as warm, but much windier. Look for southerly and southwesterly winds between 10 and 20 miles an hour Tuesday, with gusts of up to 30 miles an hour in the Valley.
In Mohave County, a high wind watch is in effect Tuesday for gusts up to 70 miles an hour. A storm moving down from the Pacific Northwest and into the Great Basin will drag a mostly dry cold front across Arizona, prompting that windy weather. It may also bring light snow showers to Arizona's higher elevations between Tuesday night and Thursday morning.
There's a slight chance of light rain in the Valley Wednesday with much colder weather expected. Highs Wednesday will barely top out in the low 60s but will quickly warm back to the 70s Thursday with sunshine that will last through the weekend.
