Phoenix weather; Windy stormPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- A dry cold front is forecast to move through Arizona Thursday, bringing windy condtions and the possibility of light showers in the high country.
The main portion of the storm will likely stay to the north of Arizona, but the dry tail of the storm, a cold front, moves through Arizona later tonight.
Ahead of the front, look for strong winds out of the southwest with gusts of up to 50 miles an hour possible.
In northern and eastern Arizona, there is a Wind Advisory in effect from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. today. Tonight and tomorrow, winds are likely be pretty gusty as well, although they'll gradually switch to a more northerly direction.
Expect seasonal temperatures across the state today with a Valley forecast high of 71 degrees. Behind the front, temperatures will be much cooler, with Valley highs in the mid-60s Friday. Lows tonight should stay in the upper 40s, but dipping to the low 40s to low 30s Friday night into Saturday morning.
Temperatures start to climb over the weekend as a ridge of high pressure builds over the Southwest. Temperatures will peak in the low 70s Saturday, the low 80s Sunday and the mid-80s Monday, all under mostly sunny skies.
