Romney supporters celebrate in PhoenixPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- A Phoenix watch party for Mitt Romney supporters quickly turned to a victory celebration when Arizona was called for Romney minutes after polls closed here.
Romney was declared the winner in Michigan shortly before 8:30 p.m. Ariz. time, and guests at the party erupted in cheers.
Two of Romney's sons, Matt and Craig, were at the party at the downtown Phoenix Hyatt to stand in for their father.
They thanked supporters and shared personal stories about their dad.
"My dad has good momentum and his message clearly resonated here, we just need to carry that forward in each and every state," Matt Romney said in an interview with 3TV.
Arizona Sen. John McCain (R) and his wife Cindy also showed up to lend support.
"I do believe a win in Michigan tonight, coupled with his win here in Arizona, will add the inevitability factor in this race," McCain said.
McCain said he never doubted Romney would win in Arizona.
The other three candidates have vowed to stay in the race and so it remains unclear how much longer the fight for the GOP nomination will last.
"We're prepared to go the distance, however far that is," said Matt Romney.
