KINGMAN, Ariz. -- Interstate 40 has reopened near Kingman. The Arizona Department of Transportation closed a 50 mile stretch of the roadway Thursday because of ice and snow.

Drivers are urged to use caution and to slow down along highways affected by icy road conditions.

The Arizona Department of Transportation closed the interstate east of Kingman earlier Thursday because of icy conditions.

The road was covered with snow and ice. Traffic was being detoured to Route 66.

ADOT road crews worked throughout the morning to clear the highway.

The interstate was closed Wednesday night between the U.S. 93 junction and Seligman after a winter storm dumped as much as a foot of snow in the area.

Several cars and trucks, including commercial trucks, slid off the highway.
