Duct-taped dog up for adoption from AAWL

PHOENIX -- The dog whose owner duct-taped her mouth shut and surrendered her to Maricopa County Animal Care & Control about two weeks ago is ready to go to a new home.

Mugzie has stolen the hearts of the staff of the Arizona Animal Welfare League and the 3TV news room.

Scott Pasmore introduced "Good Morning! Arizona" viewers to the shy-but-affectionate dog Tuesday morning.

“It was pretty shocking,” said MCACC manager Linda Soto when Mugzie and her puppies were dropped off.

While Mugzie's former owner told police the dogs were unfriendly and she feared being scratched or bitten, AAWL staff say Mugzie is a sweet, playful dog and seems to get along with everybody, including other animals -- even cats.

Because of her experience, Mugzie is a little leery of people when she first meets them, but she warms up quickly.

Mugzie is a terrier-American pit bull mix. She's little over a year old. Her adoption fee is $175.

The Arizona Animal Welfare League (602-273-6852) is adopting out the animals along with HALO (602-971-9222).
