PHOENIX -- Two people were killed and two others were seriously injured after a late-night crash on Saturday in the west valley.

Phoenix police said a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe ran into a concrete barrier and a light pole at the Loop 101 and Indian School Road.

Police said the 32-year-old male driver and a 28-year-old male passenger died.

Two other passengers in the Tahoe, both men ages 25 and 26, were seriously injured.

According to a spokesman for the Phoenix Police Department, the crash happened after the driver of the Tahoe was stopped for a traffic violation in the area of 83rd Avenue and Indian School Road.

Police say after the officer made contact with the driver, the driver put the vehicle in gear and sped away westbound on Indian School Road.

The officer followed the vehicle but stopped after the driver ran a red light.
