Car flees after hitting pedestrian in El Mirage

EL MIRAGE, Ariz. -- El Mirage police are asking for the public's help finding a driver who hit a pedestrian then took off.

The hit-and-run happened at about 6:40 p.m. Friday near El Mirage and Thunderbird roads.

Police said the vehicle struck Blanca Carbajal, 37, who was crossing the street.

The woman was taken to a local hospital where she later died.

Police investigators are still seeking to identify the driver and vehicle that fled the scene.

The vehicle is described as a white, two-door, newer model Eclipse or a similar make. The vehicle is believed to have sustained front-end damage and a broken windshield. 

Police released a surveillance photo of a man investigators believe is the driver.
