YUMA, Ariz. -- A Yuma man is accused of abusing his girlfriend's twin daughters.

The Yuma County Sheriff's Office began an investigation after the 20-month-old girls were treated for multiple bruises and contusions on their heads, torso and pelvic area. One victim also suffered a broken clavicle and bleeding on the brain.

The girls were taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center then flown to Phoenix Children's Hospital for treatment.

Jonathan Pulmarsh Rios, 22, was arrested Tuesday on charges of child abuse and aggravated assault.

According to the sheriff's office, Rios was alone with the twins when they were injured.

The children's mother, Stephanie Gregston, 19, was arrested Thursday for failure to report child abuse.

Child Protective Services removed the children from Gregston's custody and placed them in the temporary custody of grandparents.
