Body found in burned-out car southeast of WickenburgPosted: Updated:
MORRISTOWN, Ariz. -- Maricopa County sheriff's detectives are investigating a gruesome discovery -- a body in a burned-out car.
Shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday, the Department of Public Safety and the Morristown Fire Department were called out to a car fire along State Route 74 at about 235th Avenue, about four miles east of U.S. 60. The car was on a roadway leading into a private community.
Once the fire was out, crews discovered a body inside the car, according to MCSO spokesman Chris Hegstrom. The victim has not been identified and no information about his or her death was immediately available.
MCSO deputies went to the address to which the car was registered, but it was an old address.
Video from the Fort McDowell Casino News Chopper showed investigators scouring the scene in an effort to determine what happened Tuesday night.
Morristown is about an hour northwest of Phoenix and about 15 minutes southeast of Wickenburg. State Route 74 runs between Interstate 17 and U.S. 60 just south of Lake Pleasant Region Park.
