It happened just before 11 a.m. in the area of Dorsey Lane and Orange Street, and police believe it was intentional -- that the 30-year-old woman was trying to commit suicide. Witnesses accounts and information they have learned about the driver, whose name has not been released. led them to that conclusion.
Witnesses say the woman was speeding across Dorsey Lane when her car plowed into the apartment.
John Wise, the man who lives in the apartment, was watching TV in another room.
"All of a sudden, I heard this great big crash," he said. "Daylight and dust started coming through the bedroom door. ... This room is toast."
Wise was not injured.
Michelle Sweeney, Wise's neighbor and an EMT, said she tried to assist the badly injured woman, and then heard a child crying inside the car. That 18-month-old boy was injured and is now recovering at local hospital.
Police confirmed to 3TV that they are investigating the woman's death as a suicide.
