Phoenix -- The Arizona Department of Public Safety needs the public's help to identify the driver who left the scene of a fatal collision on Interstate 17.

The collision occurred on Monday, Jan. 23 just after 4 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Interstate 17 at Happy Valley Road.

A semi-truck, a 1988 Saturn station wagon and an unknown third vehicle were involved in the incident.

Investigators say, for unknown reasons, the Saturn sedan entered Interstate 17 through the gore point near the southbound ramp at Happy Valley Road.  The driver side of the Saturn was struck by the semi truck, which was traveling at about 60 mph. The driver of the Saturn was deceased on scene.

The deceased victim has been identified as Brian P. Bedard, 51, of Anthem.

The driver of the semi was not injured.

DPS needs help identifying the unknown vehicle and its driver. The unknown vehicle should have damage to its front left corner and is believed to be a larger profile vehicle such as a SUV or truck with large tires.

The DPS Vehicular Crimes Unit is investigating the crash and would appreciate the public's help.
