Apartment fire displaces family of 5 in southwest Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Tucson Fire Department was called to an apartment fire Thursday morning at a complex near 36th Street and Mission Road.

Neighbors heard a smoke alarm and could see smoke coming from the first floor apartment.

A family of five lives there, but they were not home at the time of the fire.

"This is a 2 story complex and when they went inside they found a lot of fire in the kitchen area right now its under investigation but perlimanary were thinking its probably cooking fire.

The family lost six birds in the blaze.

The two adults and three children will be displaced, but they are receiving help from the Red Cross.

Firefighters say the stove caught fire in the kitchen.
