PHOENIX -- One person was found dead after a fire broke out in a Phoenix townhome Thursday morning.

Phoenix firefighters were called to the complex near 16th Street and Maryland Avenue at approximately 9:30 a.m. and found the body in one of the units.

No information about the victim has been released and the cause of death has not been determined.

The townhome was a complete loss.

Deputy Chief Frank Salomon with the Phoenix Fire Department said a firewall helped contained the fire to the west side of the building.

At this time, it is not clear what caused the fire.

"There was a tremendous amount of fire with such a short response time," Salomon said. "Investigators will be looking to see, obviously, what was the initial cause of the fire and why did it spread so quickly."

The investigation is ongoing.
