'SpyderPig' balloon becomes untethered, catches firePosted: Updated:
CAREFREE, Ariz. -- A pilot had to land a hot-air balloon in rough terrain Saturday after it broke loose from its ropes at the Carefree-Cave Creek Hot Air Balloon Festival.
Apparently the "SpyderPig" balloon became untethered and when it started to drift up, the pilot took control, which requires a burn.
He added heat, which is the flame seen on the YouTube video above.
Wayne Bond had to bring down the balloon in rough terrain, using trees to stop. He reportedly landed in the lot of a home. His hands were scraped up as he landed.
The balloon caught fire because of the angle it was at when it took off. There is no word on the extent of the damage.
Bond blamed the accident on high winds.
No one on the ground was injured.
