Final girders added to Cushing Street bridgePosted: Updated:
TUCSON, Ariz -- Thursday, construction crews were adding the last six girders to the Cushing Street Bridge.
The girders came from Phoenix and are 80 tons a piece, and 153 feet long.
"It's a tremendous step for this bridge. It brings us to the next level when we actually set the girders next step will be to pour the decking and get the walls up. It's important for not only the traffic but it's important for the communities on both sides of I-10," said City of Tucson Project Manager Jesse Gutierrez.
The bridge will have two lanes going east and west along with the modern street car.
The bridge is expected to be open in June of this year.
