Sheriff looks at possible connection between Tucson body and L.A. body parts

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Pima County Sheriff's Department is working with law enforcement in Los Angeles to see if body parts found near the Hollywood sign this week are related to a dismembered body discovered west of Tucson.

A man's body was found on the side of a dirt road on January 6 west of the Tucson mountains.

His head, hands, and feet were missing.

On Tuesday a man's head was found near the Hollywood sign.

"We have been in contact with Tucson.  It seems to be a little bit of a stretch, but it's one of the clues we are going to follow up until the very end," said Commander Andrew Smith from the Los Angeles Police Department.

"Really it's going to come down to the DNA to find out if the cases are related, so what we'll do is we'll share that information with California who will give it to their office of medical examiner and hopefully we'll be able to determine if they're related," said Deputy Dawn Barkman from the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department hopes to get the DNA results back early next week.
