PHOENIX -- Phoenix police arrested a 14-year-old boy they say sexually assaulted a woman at an apartment complex early Thursday morning.

Police said the 42-year-old woman had returned to her apartment complex near Indian School Road and 23rd Avenue just after midnight when the suspect approached her in the parking lot.

The juvenile threatened the woman with a knife and forced her back to her vehicle where he sexually assaulted and robbed her, according to Sgt. Trent Crump. The suspect then fled on foot.

The victim sought help from other residents in the complex.

Responding officers were able to determine the suspect's identity from prior contacts in the complex and located him at a nearby apartment complex where he was taken into custody.

Officers served a search warrant at his parents' home and recovered evidence of the sexual assault.

Crump said the suspect admitted involvement in the crime. He is being detained at a juvenile facility on suspicion of sexual assault, kidnapping, sexual abuse, armed robbery and aggravated assault.
