Tucson man found dead following police standoffPosted: Updated:
TUCSON, Ariz. -- A SWAT standoff on Tucson's south side had a residential neighborhood on lockdown Wednesday.
Around 4 P.M. U.S. Marshals went to serve an arrest warrant for 32-year-old Ashton Lewis.
He was wanted for home invasion, kidnapping, and armed robbery.
When the suspect saw cops, he shut the door and said he wasn't coming out. At least one gunshot was heard from inside the house.
"Once they were walking up to the door they identified Mr. Lewis he slammed the door prior to them getting up to the door to stop it and then they heard the shot from within,"
At the time it was not clear whether the suspect shot at police or if it was a suicide attempt.
Cops were not able to contact anyone inside. Nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution.
After 9 P.M. Wednesday the Sheriff's department reported Lewis had apparently shot himself.
