Buffelgrass removal on Tucson's east sidePosted: Updated:
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Volunteers spent much of their morning removing Buffelgrass on the east side Tuesday.
A total of 15 volunteers participated in the removal of the invasive grass, which is also a fire hazard.
"Buffelgrass was brought in to the Sonoran desert many decades ago and it's an invasive plant that has spread across the desert and is threatening our natural ecosystem," said B.J. Cordova from Tucson Clean & Beautiful. "So, we're hoping to remove as much as we can from the roadside here, but, at the same time, helping to beautify and clean up the roadside."
There is still a need for more volunteers for "Beat Back Buffelgrass Day" on Saturday, January 28.
