Police: Woman's fall at Tempe apartment complex was accidentPosted: Updated:
TEMPE, Ariz. -- A 21-year-old woman is in the hospital after falling three stories at a Tempe apartment building Monday afternoon.
It happened at about 3 p.m. at the West 6th high-rise community near Sixth Street and Forest Avenue.
Police say the woman, whose name has not been released, fell more 30 feet from the 10th floor to a pool area on the seventh floor of Tower 1.
The woman, who reportedly was visiting West 6th when she fell, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Medical Center. At last check, the woman was in serious condition.
The balconies of the apartments have relatively tall Plexiglas® walls, said 3TV's Ryan O'Donnell. A resident said those walls come up to about chest level.
"It would take a lot to actually fall over," Jordan Chambers said.
Tempe police said the fall has been determined to be accidental. Spokeswoman Molly Enright said Tuesday that there were no signs of foul play.
West 6th opened to renters over the summer.
